Two-thirds of low-income kids have no books at home.
Just eight percent of the characters in picture books are non-white.
The Equal Opportunity Book Box is out to right both of those wrongs.
Hi. My name is Jacob (he/him) and I’m a student at Northwestern University’s School of Education and Social Policy. When I was 16, I started a company that processed bulk books. I sold them online individually and eventually moved into a warehouse. But off to college I went, and the business went dormant. During my sophomore year, I took a class called “Education and the Inheritance of Social Inequality.” I learned that the lack of a quality early childhood education was the chief driver behind social inequality. I wanted to do something. Enter the Equal Opportunity Book Box.
By leveraging a network of contacts in the distribution and book industries, with your help we’ll be able to donate just as many books as we send you. The books we send feature diverse characters and storylines of tolerance.
Every month, The Equal Opportunity Book Box arrives on your doorstep with three new, high-quality picture books and an educational coloring activity. The box is suitable for ages 2-6. That's who we are - now, I want to hear from you! Please feel free to drop me a line about anything under the sun: firstname.lastname@example.org
